“Calming the water”

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic modality that has slowly gained widespread acceptance in the mainstream world of psychology and medicine. Hypnotherapy is the combination of hypnosis and psychotherapy to affect positive change in a persons life.
Hypnotherapy can be used to combat Anxiety, Pain management, Stress, Anger, Sadness, PTSD, Gambling, Smoking and Weight Control among other issues.

Imagine that you have dropped a treasure chest with all your valuables off the back of your boat into a lake.  Now imagine that it is such a windy day and the water is so choppy… you can’t begin to possibly see where the treasure has settled. Now imagine calming the wind so that the surface of the lake settles.  The water is so still that you can see exactly where that treasure chest is. Now, you can get it.

Hypnotherapy is a calming and focusing of the mind to access the wisdom and knowledge below the surface (subconscious). Hypnosis bypasses the critical censor of the conscious mind which oftentimes gets in the way of positive changes.
Hypnotherapy is a way of gaining clarity, letting go of old patterns and walking into the future with a new found awareness.

Hypnotherapy Myths

There are a few myths about hypnotherapy. Even though the psychological and medical professions recognize hypnosis/hypnotherapy as a useful and powerful tool the public at large is largely unaware of what hypnotherapy is and it’s therapeutic benefits.

You do not lose control. Many people have an idea that hypnosis involves MIND CONTROL, spilling your deepest darkest secrets, doing bizarre things (Stage hypnosis), or having the practitioner implanting ideas that do not reflect the clients moral or ethical framework. This is NOT TRUE! Largely the public has gotten these misconceptions from the media be it from TV, movies, or watching Stage hypnotists manipulate people in front of audiences. Hypnotherapy has engendered misconceptions and stigma due to these fears. Sadly many professionals in the medical and psychological field with little or no training or experience dismiss hypnosis. The truth is that everyone falls under some level of hypnosis each and every day. That is to say they are in an altered state of consciousness (during driving, daydreaming, fantasizing) at some point in their daily routine.

The use of hypnosis in hypnotherapy is not a cure all or panacea. It’s effectiveness varies for each individual. However, there is no ambiguity as to whether hypnosis is real. In fact hypnosis is taught in many medical schools to doctors as an adjunct to their medical training. Hypnotherapy is even utilized in many hospitals as an alternative to drug anesthesia during surgery.
